About

I Am Brave Africa Foundation NPC (PBO No. 930087988) is a registered South African Non-Profit Company based in Parktown North, Johannesburg, Gauteng. Our offices at Parktown Quarters, Corner of 3rd Avenue and 7th Avenue serve as the administrative hub and provide broader community counselling services.

All other operational activities, including school-based programmes and community interventions, take place on-site in the schools and communities we serve, ensuring accessible and culturally relevant mental health support to youth and families.

The Foundation was established to address the growing mental health challenges affecting South African youth, focusing on early intervention, prevention, and psychosocial support, contributing to improved educational outcomes and long-term social well-being.

The Path Story

We stand for mental health for impact

Brave Africa Foundation was created to address the rising mental health challenges among South Africa’s youth, especially in under-resourced communities. One of our key tools is establishing mental health clinics within schools and communities, providing safe, accessible spaces for one-on-one counselling and personalized support.

By partnering with educational institutions and organizations, we deliver evidence-based programs that build emotional resilience and prepare young people for life and work. Supporting youth mental health at critical transition points, from high school to university and into the workplace, helps reduce dropout rates, improve employment prospects, and boost economic contribution.

Mental health is both a human right and a driver of productivity and innovation. We invite partners and investors to join us in expanding these clinics and support systems to empower South Africa’s future workforce and build stronger communities.

Together, we can build a resilient generation prepared to lead South Africa’s future.

What We Believe

At Brave Africa Foundation, we believe in the power of young people to shape Africa’s future. We place mental health at the core of growth, fostering resilience, courage, and holistic development. Through community empowerment, early intervention, and strong partnerships, we create safe spaces where young people can thrive and dream beyond limitations.

  • About Mental Health in Schools

Mental health challenges often begin early, with nearly half of all conditions starting before the age of 14, making schools and communities critical spaces for early intervention. Schools are often the first places where signs appear, whether through academic struggles, behavior changes, or social withdrawal, while communities provide the support systems needed to break stigma and encourage openness. When ignored, mental health issues can lead to higher dropout rates, limited opportunities, and cycles of poverty, violence, or substance abuse, but when addressed, schools and communities become safe spaces that foster resilience, equip young people with coping skills, and build healthier, more productive societies. Partnerships between families, educators, health professionals, and community organizations are essential to ensure consistent care and to make sure no young person is left behind.

  • Community-Centric Approach

Brave Africa Foundation is committed to collaborating closely with local communities to ensure that all initiatives are culturally relevant, sustainable, and impactful. By partnering with existing mental health service structures, we strengthen their capacity and create new, effective platforms for delivering services. A key focus of our work is the establishment of mental health clinics within schools, providing safe and accessible spaces where learners and community members can receive professional support and guidance.

In addition, we implement skills transfer programs in collaboration with learners, equipping them with practical knowledge and life skills that foster self-reliance, personal growth, and long-term community development. By integrating mental health support with educational and vocational opportunities, Brave Africa ensures a holistic approach that empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and creates lasting, measurable impact.

  • Holistic Early Intervention

Brave Africa Foundation focuses on supporting the early development of social and emotional skills in learners, with a particular focus on Grade 8 and 9 learners, recognizing this as a critical stage for shaping resilience and well-being. While our programs benefit the school community as a whole, we prioritize early intervention to foster cognitive growth, emotional intelligence, and healthy coping strategies. This proactive approach addresses mental health challenges at their root, ensuring sustainable impact and long-term benefits for learners, families, and the wider community.

  • Advocacy and Awareness

Through public health promotion and education in partnership with various advocacy and lobbying organizations, Brave Africa strives to improve understanding and awareness of the importance of mental health initiatives targeting youth at risk.

  • Ethical and Sustainable Practices

The foundation operates with a commitment to ethical standards and sustainability, ensuring that its programs and initiatives have a lasting positive impact on communities.
